Lake Placid
Lake Placid
area offers
27 clear, freshwater lakes with some
of the best fishing anywhere. This southern
portion of Central Florida, also known as “The
Ridge,” is one of the most scenic areas of the
Sunshine State. The beauty of our lakes
and rolling hills have spurred residential
growth around Lake Placid. Enjoy our
quiet countryside, and rely on the Town of Lake
Placid for daily essentials as well as cultural,
recreational and educational pursuits.
Any season of
the year is a good time to visit Lake Placid.
Our moderate temperatures and sunny days assure
plenty to do year-round. With our pristine
freshwater lakes, it's no wonder that many
recreational pursuits around Lake Placid are
water related.
Swimming, boating, sailing and fishing are
popular activities with visitors and residents.
Our blue skies, stately cypress, and beautiful
lake views are perfect for picnics and hiking.
While you can
enjoy the friendliness, comfort, and safety of
our community, you don’t have to go far for the
amenities of larger metropolitan centers. Being
the most southern town in Highlands County, Lake
Placid is a comfortable drive away from either
coast and most population centers of the state.
You can take
in the major attractions in Orlando, just 100
miles from Lake Placid or experience big city
life in Miami, which is 145 miles to the south
east.
Large mouth
bass are plentiful in the lakes, with six to
eight pounders caught regularly. Bluegills,
shell crackers and crappies are plentiful as
well and provide excellent eating.

Currently the town has eight
parks. The largest park is the Lake June
Park/Sports Complex. Visitor to these parks will
find baseball/softball fields and
soccer/football fields. There are also picnic
pavilions for small or large gatherings. The
beach area has four covered pavilions in a sandy
area and a boat ramp. The beach also has a nice
grass area that is perfect for a blanket picnic.
There are two "serene" parks,
Stuart Park and John's Park. Each are located in
the downtown area and each offer something a
little different. Stuart Park is very popular
for small community events and parties. Located
within the park is a bar-b-cue pit and
shuffleboard courts. The park also offers lots
of shade and a walking path with benches.
John's Park is a "relaxing" park. It offers a
shaded walking path and benches. Its quietness
provides the perfect place to relax and read a
book.
There are three neighborhood
parks within the town. Bicentennial Park, Spruce
Park, and the newest addition Taylor Park. Each
park offers a variety of playground equipment
providing hours of fun for kids.
The middle of town provides
Devane Park. Better known as the "circle."
This park is used for many different large
events. Each year the Arts and Crafts show is
held in the park and in conjunction with the
Caladium Festival the antique car show is also
held in the park. The park is also available
for weddings and parties.
